Fisheries Economics

Where fisheries science made a successful invention, Fisheries Economics starts work after that.  The system of mass production, good price for normal people, bearable budget for fish farmers and farm owner, all are managed by economics. As an example, let’s see a chronical list of cost related to fish capturing:

  • Boat cost
  • Net cost
  • Labor cost
  • Food cost
  • Fuel cost
  • License cost
  • Port fee
  • Boat repair cost

These all need to be balanced with or less than captured fish prices otherwise profit will be less or marginal.  If we take another example from Fish production farm then a huge cost-list will pop up like:

  • Price of Area
  • Building cost
  • Pond making cost
  • Labor cost
  • Manure cost
  • Current bill
  • Fish fry price
  • Fish feed cost
  • Fish medicine cost
  • Harvesting cost
  • Transportation to bazar cost
  • Aratdar fee/tax
  • Farm management’s Salary

And as well, all these need to be satisfied by the figures of selling price of produced table size fish. To cover the adequate knowledge about all these points and manage them in good hand, one has to learn Fisheries Economics.

As we all know fisheries is not a subject of practical science to do a regular job but also a producer of self-employment.  For sake of these also, we heavily need to understand the terms and working strategy of economics on fisheries and its products.

Yes, I confess that there is no good book, which can only describe Fisheries Economics with its context to your country as well as the world. However, I can hope if you assume the importance of it after reading this article then that future is near when you will take a footstep to spread the knowledge and power of fisheries economics and make a developed economic country in Fisheries sector.
